What to Expect When Getting Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is an efficient way to remove hair. You can have laser hair removal procedures performed at most med spas by trained doctors and laser specialists. There are a few things you should expect before you will go into your appointment at Hollywood Skin Australia Skin Clinic.

Before the Laser Hair Removal Procedure

You will be given goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beams. If the area you are having laser hair removal has long hair, you will have to have some of the hair trimmed down. The area might need to have a topical anesthetic applied to the top to somewhat numb the area out. This will help to stop any discomfort you may experience from the laser beam.

During the Laser Hair Removal Procedure
During your laser hair removal procedure you will experience your laser specialist pressing a hand-held tool to your skin. That tool will produce the laser beam. There will either be a cool tip on the tool or the laser specialist will use a cooling gel on your skin that is having the procedure performed on.

The  procedure  happens by the laser specialist turning on the beam and aiming it at the base of the hair follicles. The laser beam will then damage the hair follicle. This will assist in inhibiting hair from growing. You may feel some discomfort as the laser hair removal process is conducted.

The appointment may take only a few minutes or a few hours. Small areas -such as the upper lip- only take up a couple minutes. An area like the back would take a few hours to completely go through a laser hair removal treatment.

After the Laser Hair Removal Procedure

After your laser hair removal procedure, you may notice that you will have mild swelling or redness on your skin. You may use ice to help with the swelling or redness. Your laser specialist may also give you a cream to use on the area post-laser hair removal procedure.

You should consider a few other skin care tips after your laser hair removal appointment too. Stay out of tanning beds and direct sunlight. UV rays will scar the tender area of your skin after receiving laser treatment. Always use sunscreen on the area if you do go outside. It is best to avoid direct sunlight until your skin has completely healed from your laser hair removal appointment.

You may notice your hair shedding off after your laser hair removal treatment. It may seem at first to be that your hair is growing back. This is your hair going through a shedding process.
